Accommodation on Mt Taranaki in the Egmont National Park
Dawson Falls Mountain Lodge and Cafe is at the end of Manaia Road in Egmont National Park on Mount Taranaki. We provide a rare opportunity to stay in a hotel within the bounds of a National Park. Enjoy the comfort and warmth of our lodge after a day walking the short tracks around the mountain and fall asleep in silence under a star filled sky and wake to the crisp clean air.
Our 'driveway' is a fantastic 6 km drive up the narrow road through a 'tunnel' of native forest - an attraction in itself and well worth it.
Our guest only lounges invite to socialise and relax in an Alpine environment, with the cosy log fires on cold wet days.
Nestled at 905m above sea level on the south-eastern slopes of Mt Taranaki, within the beautiful Egmont National Park, is Dawson Falls Mountain Lodge. The lodge was originally built in 1896. The lodge has 12 guest rooms, each with its own ensuite and can accommodate up to 24 guests.
Right from the door you can explore the parks natural beauty and rich heritage. Whether it's an amble through the Goblin forest to Dawson Falls, a dip in Wilkies Pools, or for the more adventurous, a climb up the slopes to Fantham's Peak- there is a place for everyone to enjoy.
At the end of the day the lodge offers the perfect place to sit back and relax in our Swiss style suites. Spend time in our lounge area, in winter by the fire, meeting other guests from all over the world and share a delicious meal.
It is a privilege to welcome you as guests and to have the pleasure to share this beautiful part of our country. Our hope, on your way down the mountain, is that you carry with you two precious gifts - fond memories and new friends.
Your hosts Sera & Markus long dreamt of providing accommodation with a difference. Having met at Lake Dive Hut (one of the day walks accessible from the lodge) in the early 90's, we knew we can't pass this opportunity.
Sera is a qualified nurse and has worked for more than 20 years before 'retiring' to the hospitality business. Markus has a Hotel Management Diploma from the Swiss Hotel Management School in Lucerne, Switzerland and a Bachelor of Applied Hospitality and Tourism Management from PIHMS in Bell Block, New Plymouth.
Together with our two girls, we are looking forward to giving you an unforgettable, relaxing and enjoyable experience on this special mountain.
